Wellington-based Israeli poet, Moshé Liba, is well-travelled as a celebrated artist and former diplomat. In his new collection of poems, Over the Waters, Dr Liba draws on a vast range of cultural experiences in many different countries to paint images of the Asia-Pacific region - past, future, present - using humour and acute observation.
"Dr Liba's work ... is mainly secular, social and personal, but with constant religious overtones, whether of commitment or protest ... Like Yehuda Amichai's, Moshé Liba's work is individualistic - capable at any time of drawing on a wide range of associations, a continuity of culture and tradition, but speaking in the language of current discourse, close to everyday speech."
